Stay Fit, Stay Wild: To the Mountains we Go
Marriage and parenthood bring a world of responsibilities, and it's easy to let them take over our lives. Schedules fill up, priorities shift, and suddenly, the things that once defined us seem like distant memories. But in the midst of the daily grind, we remind ourselves of one simple truth: We are still us. The same two people who fell in love with adventure, drawn to the outdoors, captivated by the call of the mountains. And just because life has changed, it doesn’t mean we have to leave behind the wild spirit that brought us together in the first place.
Gear Up: Me and You
Before every trip, we lay out our gear side by side. Me. You. Me and You. Each pack different—varying in size, color, and weight—but always packed with the same excitement, the same passion. There’s an unspoken understanding between us, a silent language built through years of adventure. It’s in the way we check each other’s packs, adjust each other’s straps, and make sure no one forgets an extra pair of socks. It’s a routine, but it’s also a ritual—one that reminds us of the bond we share.
Packing for Four, Dreaming for More
Through the years, our backpacks have seen countless trails, campsites, and sunsets. They’ve carried tents, cooking gear, and memories we cherish. And for some trips, they’ve already carried more—because we’ve packed for four before, for camping adventures with our kids. We’ve seen their joy in the outdoors, their fascination with the little things: the rustling leaves, the glow of a campfire, the whisper of the wind through the trees.
But now, we dream of something bigger. We dream of the day we prepare them for their first major climb. Of packing tiny trekking poles alongside ours, of guiding them through the ascent, of watching them take their first determined steps up the mountain. Me. You. Our kids. A family bound not just by blood, but by the trails we’ll walk and the stories we’ll share.
We imagine it: The day when we zip up additinal sleeping bag next to ours. When we hear the laughter of small voices echoing through the trees. When our children’s feet touch the same earth that has shaped us, their eyes filled with the same sense of wonder that led us here in the first place. We dream of that day, and every hike we take now is a step toward that future.
Up the Mountain, Hand in Hand
Even with our busy schedules, we carve out time to reconnect with nature. Short hikes, overnight camps, quick runs—each trip is a reminder that our bodies are still capable, our spirits still untamed. We know we won’t always be this strong, this fast, or this agile. But if we stay fit, if we stay wild, then maybe—just maybe—we’ll still be climbing when our kids are ready to take their first major ascent.
We picture that moment vividly. Standing outside our humble tent, watching as our children lace up their hiking shoes, their excitement mirroring our own from years before. And in that instant, we will know: Every choice we made, every trail we pursued, every ounce of effort we put in—it was all worth it. Because adventure isn’t just about reaching the summit. It’s about ensuring we can still do it together when the next generation is ready to follow in our footsteps.
Stay Fit. Stay Wild.
The mountains will always be there. The real question is: Will we still have the strength to climb them?
That’s why we train. That’s why we keep pushing forward. Not just for us, but for the future we dream of. Because the best adventures aren’t just the ones in our memories—they’re the ones we’re still preparing for.
To each other, to the future, and to you kaBoonies—TO THE MOUNTAINS WE GO!
